Thurston Moore, David Toop & Tania Chen will make explosive sounds in the Great Hall at Goldsmiths College, London
Recently David Toop & Tania played at All Tomorrow's Parties and they had a blast, especially when David pressed the subwoofer, the ground shook...and he almost broke his slide guitar while Tania played a video and made some noises...Thurston Moore happened to be there and asked Tania to play a duo at his show at Cafe OTO 4 months later...then they all made a studio album together...and now their trio will play at Goldsmiths College, a place with strong experimental energy

John Cage INDETERMINACY
performed by stewart lee, steve beresford, tania chen
“John Cage is funny: this much we know. The deadpan prankster at the heart of 20th-century artistic experimentalism was always about the inadvertent punchline, the chuckle that comes from unexpected disjunction, the relief that comes from reminders of the absurdity of reality, as much as he was ever about any engagement with progress, technology, the transcendent. It's entirely natural, then, that Stewart Lee, who has spent his whole career reaching outwards from the comedy circuit towards the avant-garde, should want to present his work.” – The Arts Desk.
“I don't believe he wasn't aware at some level that the stories in Indeterminacy, when juxtaposed at random, wouldn't produce comic effects. They're a mixture of the pretentiously philosophical and the banally mundane. A disproportionate number of them have a lot to do with mushrooms – not the magic ones, just mushrooms.” – Stewart Lee on John Cage, in The Quietus.
David Toop and I are playing a complete series of one of my video sound compositions. Together we will explore improvised sound activities on surfaces resulting in multiple contextual interpretations that range from the minimal, absurd, irrelevant, irreverent, to the sublime.
Stewart Lee will be curating this year's music festival in north wales.
